What we do

Innovative drive & sensor solution based on dielectric elastomers.

iDEAS has its roots in the “intelligent Material Systems Lab” (iMSL) the “Chair for Intelligent Material Systems” of Prof. Stefan Seelecke at Saarland University (imsl.de). The subject of intelligent materials and their use in intelligent systems has been dealt with there for more than 10 years. In almost 100 bilateral industrial projects, the functionality and areas of application were demonstrated in practice.

FlexSense Sensing Technology

  • These are multi-layer capacitance sensors that are made of silicone rubber and condusctive inks
  • Over 100 global patents demonstrate the breadth and depth of FlexSense technology

How it works

Two unique forms are available: Stretch sensors and pressure sensors

DE Stretch Sensor at the top and round DE pressure sensor at the bottom.

Stretch sensors are strain sensors that are used to measure changes in shape through stretching or compression. As the sensor change shape, it detects mechanical change and converts it into a proportional electrical signal; thereby acting as a mechanical-electrical converter. 

Most noteworthy of the pressure sensors capabilities are repeatability of less than 0.1% over millions of cycles with very high physical stability that will withstand shearing type of stress without damage to the sensor. The sensors are also linear, with very low hysteresis

For more than 10 years, the topic of smart materials and their use in intelligent systems has been addressed there. In almost 100 bilateral industrial projects, the functionality and areas of application have been demonstrated in practice. Together with the sister company of “mateligent GmbH” (mateligent.de), which is engaged in the industrialization of systems made of shape memory alloys (FGL/SMA), iDEAS GmbH is preparing the future of intelligent drives and sensor technology with its new technology based on dielectric elastomers. Due to their unique properties, the DE drives and DE sensors allow the development of new innovative products in the consumer, automotive, medical, health care and industrial sectors.

iDEAS has the vision to become a worldwide acting and leading supplier for intelligent drives, based on intelligent materials, the dielectric elastomers. The challenges of Industry 4.0 is one of the ideal application areas.

By providing energy-efficient DE drives, iDeas can help to replace energy-intensive drives such as electromagnetic lifting magnets or pneumatic drives. In this way, iDeas supports global efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions through massive energy savings.

What we do

Sectors We Work On​

The fields of application are diverse and the user stories endless. Building automation, Industry 4.0, automation, medical, laboratory technology, or even fitness, clothing, shoes, soft robotics…. There will be no place where smart actuators made of smart materials can be imagined without in the future. Actuators or sensors made of dielectric elastomers are ultra-thin, adapt to any shape, can be placed in places where there was no space before… They will replace linear solenoids, proportional solenoids, pneumatic actuators or appear in places where it was not possible before.
